Smart Cash is not a new investment - it combines Titan Treasury and Cash Reserve into one offering that is anticipated to earn the highest after tax yield available on Titan. As the yields for Treasury Funds frequently change, Smart Cash will automatically move your balance into the cash-equivalent option that is designed to provide you the highest after tax yield — less work for you, and more potential earnings on your cash.

Additionally, unlike Titan Treasury and Cash Reserve, Smart Cash will optimize your yield based on your personal tax situation, to help find potential savings on your earnings. Many products just solve for the top-line yield, but we solve for your bottom line too. Since some of the earnings from Treasury Funds may offer state tax exemptions, Smart Cash scans rates daily, and is designed to earn the highest yield after taxes - so you can keep more of what you’ve earned.

Smart Cash evaluates several cash equivalents, including treasury money market funds, which may offer state tax exemptions on some of the income earned.

When setting up Smart Cash, you’ll confirm information such as income, tax filing status, and state of residence so we can estimate your federal and state tax brackets. We’ll then regularly check the yield rates of our Cash Reserve and Treasury Funds to anticipate which one would earn you the highest yield after taxes.

At the end of the year, your total earnings (pre-tax) will be reported on your 1099 tax document, and Titan will communicate the amount of these earnings that is projected to be tax exempt as a result of Smart Cash. This amount can then be referenced when filing your taxes.

Please note that since IRA accounts are already tax advantaged we will move funds to the option with the highest pre-tax yield instead of personalizing this to your tax situation. Titan does not account for city or municipal tax policies, as well as additional personal situations, such as dependents, when evaluating your taxes. Titan will allocate your investment in Titan Treasury to one of three funds: (1)  a Schwab U.S. Treasury Money Fund (ticker symbol SNSXX), (2) a Vanguard U.S. Treasury Money Fund (ticker symbol VUSXX), or (3) a Gabelli U.S. Treasury Money Fund.

Yes! Your Smart Cash balance can be used to make other investments in your Titan account. If investments are needed to be funded from money that is currently invested in a Treasury Fund, the investments will execute the day following the sale of the Treasury Fund.

Smart Cash has no Titan advisory fees. The underlying treasury money market funds may have expense ratios that range from 0.08% - 0.34%, but the current yield shown is already net of these fees.

Smart Cash is highly liquid, allowing you to start a withdrawal at any time. Withdrawals can be made without penalties or waiting on maturity dates, and typically are completed within 3-4 business days.

If it is determined that APY from our Titan Cash Reserve is the best option to earn the highest potential yield on your money in Smart Cash, your money will continue to be held as uninvested cash. Since this money is not invested, there is no risk of loss of principal in Cash Reserve as it isn’t considered a security. In addition, when you opt into our Cash Sweep Program, your cash, including cash held in Titan strategies that we classify as “Strategic Cash,” is FDIC-insured up to $5M. In this program, Apex Clearing, as the program manager, has the discretion to sweep your uninvested cash into one or more Program Banks. While FDIC insurance does not apply if you have not opted into our Cash Sweep Program, opting into this program is required before enabling Smart Cash. For more details, visit www.fdic.gov.

If your money is instead held in one of our treasury money market funds (“Treasury Funds”), these funds invest primarily in securities issued by the U.S. Government and backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government. While money that is in a Treasury Fund is indeed invested and no investment is truly risk-free, securities issued by the U.S. Government are widely considered to be a low-risk investment with minimal potential for loss of principal. These Treasury Funds aim to maintain a stable $1 share price. It’s worth noting that although unlikely, significant shifts in interest rates could influence the share price. However, such occurrences are rare and the Treasury Funds are designed to weather most normal market fluctuations. Additionally, the brokerage account which holds the Treasury Funds is protected by SIPC insurance in the event of a brokerage firm failure. SIPC provides coverage up to $500,000, with a maximum of $250,000 for cash held in the account. This insurance does not protect against market losses or guarantee investment value.
